Witnesham Wasps 2–2 Felixstowe & Walton Whites (U11s)
On a brisk and windy morning, We lost Charlie due to sickness before a ball had been kicked and Marcio started as sub due to motion sickness... and with wind chill we started a little sluggish against the wind.
Witnesham broke clear around 7mins in and their forward struck nicely into the bottom corner for the home team to take a deserved early lead.
Ollie T came out of goal and Ishan stepped between the sticks, and Marcio stepped onto the pitch. We started to play some football and got a couple of shots on goal and the boys really picked their work rate up. We finished the half the stronger team I felt but still trailed 1-0 down at the break.
Second half we started quickly and earned a corner – from said corner the ball found its way to Ross who finished nicely to level the game 1-1.
Very soon after, Marcio picked up the ball from an attacker's toes, knocked it past him and took on the midfield and the the defence and as he approached the box, he let one fly straight into the top corner to make it 1-2 to the Seasiders. We continued to play and worked hard with some great passing, pressing and work rate for everyone in red and white. Witnesham created much fewer chances in the second half. The couple they did Ishan was equal to, who played very well between the sticks at short notice.
Midway through the second half, Witnesham earned a corner from a counter attack that deflected into the goal from the near post to bring the game to 2-2. Both teams played for the win with Witnesham defending in numbers and the Seasiders mopping up the counter attacks as they happened.
The lads should be proud of their efforts today and none more so to the man of the match, who I felt worked back to defend and found pockets of space to play in a packed midfield and covered a lot of ground with some nice linkup play. Well done Aleks!
