Two of the media team step down

Two of the media team, Barry Grossmith (Press Officer) and Carole Robinson (Seasiders TV) have informed the club that they are stepping down from their roles at Felixstowe and Walton, Carole with immediate effect and Barry after the home match against Grays on 16th November.

In relation to this, both the Chairman, Andy Wilding, and Vice Chairman, Tony Barnes, wanted to comment and thank Carole and Barry for their contributions to the club.

Andy Wilding:

It is with much regret that I am letting you all know that Barry and Carole have informed the football club of their intentions to leave their respective roles within the media section, Carole with immediate effect and Barry after the home match against Grays on 16th November. It was 2 years ago that our previous press officer Phil Griffiths stood down, by which time Barry and Carole had moved to the area and had already been at the Goldstar ground supporting their local football team. Phil and Barry came together and fortunately for the football club, a new press officer was found. Barry had a meeting with me and the idea of having a media section at the club was born. Barry quickly set about adding to the team with Carole & Mark (Owen) and together they worked on formulating a very creditable media section. New website design, Seasiders TV, pre & post-match interviews with players & staff, mid-week reporting in the local press, post-match reporting in the local press and a plethora of relevant information posted on our website and social media platforms. The efforts of Barry & Carole over the last two years really have put Felixstowe & Walton United on football’s non-league map and I am truly grateful for all that they have done for us. I say it with a very heavy heart but I am truly sad to see Barry and Carole step aside but say a HUGE thank you from me and on behalf of the Football Club. Whoever we may find now to fill the void will find it a tough act to follow. That all said, Barry & Carole will still be seen supporting their beloved football club home and away. Once a Seasider, always a Seasider.

Barry, Carole THANK YOU.

Tony Barnes:

I would just like to pay tribute to and thank Carole and Barry for the amazing work they have done at The Goldstar over the last couple of years.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with them as they have successfully helped steer the club to greater exposure through all streams of media and surely played a large part in helping us sustain such healthy crowds. Very sad to see them leave their positions but pleased to hear they will still be supporting the Seasiders from the sidelines.

Thanks for everything Carole and Barry and enjoy the reduced levels of stress!!

Carole wanted to say thank you to the club for offering her such a warm welcome when she started going to the Goldstar Ground some two and a half years ago.  She said, “When I first went to the club, what struck me was the friendly atmosphere and sense of community. I enjoyed being there and wanted to give something back so knew I had to get involved.  For various reasons, it’s now time for me to step back and enjoy my role as a supporter again, still coming to games and meeting up with so many of the great people I’ve met.”

For his part, Barry said, “I’ll be forever grateful for all the new friends I’ve met since first coming to the club and intend fully to maintain all those relationships as a Seasider at most home and away games.  I’ve learnt just how much hard work goes on behind the scenes at a non-league football club and how important it is for everyone to look out for and support each other in everything that goes on.  Despite my short time at the club, I think it’s now time to enjoy watching things from the terraces.”
